- About us
Drinking water is getting scarce the world over. More than one fifth of the world population are living without sufficient water supply already today, and in the year 2025 even half of the population of the earth will suffer from water shortage.
Seawater desalination is already an indispensable basis of drinking water supply and agriculture in many regions of the world. There are about 12,000 major seawater desalination plants that are producing a total of 36 million cubic metres of drinking water per day - with upward tendency. Seawater desalination has developed into a world-wide growth market.
In international seawater desalination, Germany has largely surrendered its co-leading role. In contrast to other nations, German economy, science and politics do not work hand in hand. Inadequate organisation and missing representation of interests have already left their traces.
German enterprises, however, possess considerable know-how which allows them to catch up with the world leaders.
With "Deutsche MeerwasserEntsalzung e.V." (DME) (= German Seawater Desalination) we create an institution for seawater desalination that stands unparalleled to date. It is our aim to bring together economy, science and politics sitting at one table, so that DME will be established as the central German contact for the exchange of information about seawater desalination.
